Gameday the Aggie Way

At Texas A&M University, gamedays are filled with Aggie-isms exchanged between fans who are more like family, and team celebrations that feel a lot like coming home. Drinks flow, laughter abounds, and all Aggie fans in and around College Station come together in Kyle Field to support the team as they play for a win. But beyond the football field is the fanfare, and Texas A&M does it better than anywhere else through these fan favorite Aggie Gameday festivities.

The 12th Man

Though only eleven football players can take the field at a time, the fans make up Texas A&M football’s symbolic 12th Man. The 12th Man moniker dates back to an Aggie football game in 1922, during which the team was severely shorthanded, and called on squad player E. King Gill to fill in their otherwise empty bench.
Gill stood with the Aggies for the entire game and supported them to a well-earned win through what would become one of college football’s biggest upsets. Today, Aggie fans show up in full force-and remain standing for the entire game-in solidarity with Gill’s Aggie spirit.

Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band

Formed in 1894, the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band is more than a marching band-each of its members is also a member of the Corps of Cadets. Commonly referred to as the Noble Men of Kyle, or simply Aggie Band, the Aggie Band is, in fact, the largest military marching band in the United States, and executes complicated maneuvers worthy of that honor.
The band claims to have never lost a halftime, and does so through their meticulous technique, style, and spirited play of the Aggie War Hymn to which all Aggie fans respond with a resounding “Whoop!”
