Tailgating on Texas A&M Gameday
There’s a beloved Aggie proverb that reads “From the outside looking in, you can’t understand it. From the inside looking out, you can’t explain it.” The fact that this adage isn’t attributed to a sole individual only enhances the sentiment behind the statement: that there’s a shared sense of connection and passion associated with being an Aggie.
This sense of belonging resonates in every “Whoop!” and “Gig ‘Em” that echoes through Kyle Field on Gameday, reverberates as the Corps of Cadets parade along the Military Walk, and is even present in every member of Aggie nation who’s snapped a photo with the Aggie Ring Statue or the War Hymn Monument. For every Aggie-ism, there’s an equally significant celebration. On Aggie Gamedays, that celebration is tailgating.
Aggies far and wide flock to College Station as early as 7 a.m. on Gamedays to prep for the game the Aggie way. As the Aggies on the field lace their cleats and don their jerseys, the Aggies off the field pop their tents, fire up their grills, and crack a cold beer in a cheers to the game to come. Ever wonder whether or not Aggies support their team? Witness an Aggie Park awash in maroon and white and you’ll never doubt that Aggies know how to show up for their school.
Experiencing an authentic Aggie Gameday is as much about the game itself as it is about the tailgating. Check out our take on the below FAQ’s to learn how you can get in on the pre-Gameday action.
Get in on the Gameday Action
How far is your hotel from Kyle Field?
96 yards! We’re located on the opposite side of Joe Routt Boulevard from the stadium, so you can also make a quick entrance into the Aggie Fan Zone, which opens 3.5 hours prior to kickoff.
What Gameday activities do you recommend?
Tailgating is a favorite Aggie pastime, so it’s our first recommendation for experiencing a Gameday the Aggie way. Stay in the spirit by also stopping by the Aggie Fan Zone for pre-game entertainment, activities, and a healthy dose of Aggie-isms.
Where can I tailgate?
Fans can tailgate in designated tailgate areas tied to parking privileges or in any Open Access Sites. Open Access Sites are available in Aggie Park, Reed Arena Grass, Oversized Vehicle Sites (near lot 65), reserved tent sites and visiting team special event sites.
What time can I start my tailgate?
Tailgating begins at 7 a.m. on Gamedays. You can, however, set up your tailgate the day prior to the game between noon and midnight. Be sure to clear your tailgate space no later than midnight on Gameday.
Do I need to reserve a location for tailgating?
Open Access Sites are first come first serve for tailgating set-up. If you would like a reserved tailgating space, be sure to either purchase a parking pass with tailgating privileges or purchase a tailgating package from an organization like the Tailgate Guys.
